Short Stay Accommodation Act data collection

The Short Stay Accommodation Act 2019 (the Act) requires booking platform providers to collect and display certain information regarding short stay premises listed on their booking platforms.

Booking platform providers are also required to report this information to the Director of Building Control on a quarterly basis, within 30 days of the end of the quarter

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new interactive Short Stay Accommodation Dashboard - Power BI.

How to use this report

We note the data starts from January 2025.

The dashboard currently defaults to Quarter 1, 2026. You can change reporting quarter using the 'Reporting Period' filter located at the top right-hand corner of the dashboard. Data from 2025 onward is available in this report.

Access to data collected under the Act

Data collected under the Act is able to be used for certain research, policy and compliance purposes. This includes provision of data to a planning authority for the purposes of compliance with the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993) or the Building Act 2016.

Building Standards Tasmania ( BST) provides data to planning authorities at council for this purpose at the end of each reporting period.

You can make a request to access this data by contacting BST. The Director will assess each request.
